About Me
Well, my real name is Milena, but everyone calls me Mili. I’m from Madrid, married to a British husband, and living with our two kids in Altea on Spain’s beautiful Costa Blanca—a place I visited as a child and always dreamed of calling home.
But it took me a long time to get here.
But a few years ago, I hit a wall.
A major reshuffle at work opened a position just below the C-suite—my moment. But the constant pressure, the 60-hour weeks and my relentless drive to “handle it all” finally caught up with me. I got burnout…
How it all Fell Apart…
I had to take months off work under a diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder. It was humiliating. For someone who’s always done everything at 110%, stepping back felt like failure.
But during that time, I had a realization that changed everything: The burnout wasn’t because I was less than. It was my environment. I had sacrificed my health. Work was my master.
My therapist gave me advice I’ll never forget:
“Make your surroundings like a Spa.”
At the time, I was desperate to feel like myself again. I’d been put on anxiety medication, and while it helped me cope, it made my brain feel fuzzy—like I couldn’t think clearly or get anything done. I wanted to come off it as quickly as possible.
But my therapist was clear: “If you don’t change your lifestyle, the burnout will keep coming back.”
Wellness at 110%
So I started small—carving out time for myself, creating a space that felt calming, and learning to recharge in the middle of chaos. It wasn’t easy. Between my two kids (12 and 15), my husband’s demanding job, and my own stubborn habits, I struggled to prioritize myself.
But I knew this: If I didn’t make a change, I wouldn’t just burn out again—I’d lose the life I’d worked so hard to build. So I made the boldest decision of my life. I left my high-powered job and took a remote HR position that still gave me upward mobility but also the flexibility to take care of myself.
We moved to Altea.
And for the first time, I put myself first.
Now, I’m doing what I do best—110% effort—but this time it’s in the name of wellness. I started this blog, Mili’s Spa, because that’s the name I gave to the bathroom area in our home as it became my own, private home spa.
